STRATEGIC ADVISORY

A senior communications partner in your corner.

If you want another senior person to think with—someone who understands communications, knows your organization and can get up to speed quickly—that’s the idea behind a Strategic Advisory retainer.

I work alongside communications leaders as an ongoing thought partner, advisor and extra set of experienced hands. We stay close so you don’t have to spend half the conversation bringing me up to speed. You can bring the question you’re wrestling with, the idea you want to pressure-test, the draft that isn’t quite there, or the request that just landed from the CEO and needs attention.

Sometimes a quick 10 or 20-minute conversation is enough to help you feel confident about the way forward. Other times, I roll up my sleeves and help do the work.

Think together. Then get things done.

A Strategic Advisory retainer combines senior counsel with practical communications support.

I can help you think through priorities, decisions and communications strategy; offer an outside perspective; challenge an assumption; notice something you may want to pay attention to; or help figure out what deserves your attention in the first place.

And when the thinking turns into work, I can help there, too—from shaping a stronger narrative or communications plan, to writing in an executive’s voice, developing thought leadership and executive visibility platforms, building or expanding a media strategy, reaching out to journalists and stakeholders, editing an important story, or helping get a sensitive communication out the door.

The mix is different for every client because the work is different. What stays consistent is the relationship—you get an experienced communications partner in your corner who knows your world, tells you what she thinks and helps you move forward.

A little support or a lot.

Some clients primarily want a senior thought partner with a modest amount of hands-on support. Others need meaningful additional communications capacity too. And sometimes Light becomes an extension of your team, helping lead and execute significant parts of the program.

Advisory relationships are shaped around the level of support you need and can evolve as that changes.

  • Focused Advisory | $3,500–$5,000/month
Regular strategic counsel with flexible hands-on support for priority communications work. A good fit when you want another senior brain in the room and some experienced help getting important work done.

  • Embedded Advisory | $5,500–$8,000/month
A closer working partnership with more frequent counsel and meaningful execution across your communications priorities. I operate as an extension of you and your team, helping think, shape, pitch, edit and create.

  • Communications Partnership | $8,500–$15,000+/month
Significant strategic and executional capacity for leaders who need a senior partner helping drive a broader communications program. Light can also bring in trusted writers, designers, media strategists and other specialists as the work requires.

These ranges are meant as a guide. We’ll shape the relationship around what would actually be most useful to you.

What could we work on?

Bring me the work that needs another experienced brain or pair of hands.

The communications plan you haven't had time to build. The CEO post that needs to sound like your CEO. The narrative the team can't quite crack. The issue in the news you're wondering whether you need to respond to. Or simply the question you want to talk through before you decide what to do next.

And if the work calls for additional expertise, I can bring in experts from Light’s trusted constellation of communications and creative talent, and oversee the work.

If having another senior communications partner beside you sounds useful, I’d love to hear about what you’re carrying and what kind of support would make a meaningful difference.

Welcome
